ART compared with EMDR
ART and EMDR are related—but they are not the same therapy.
Both approaches may use eye movements during trauma-focused psychotherapy, but their procedures, training models, and session structure differ.
The short answer
Two distinct psychotherapy protocols.
ART and EMDR are separate approaches. Both may incorporate eye movements, but their complete procedures and training models are not interchangeable.
PCW offers ART and does not present ART as universally better than EMDR.
ART
ART uses guided eye movements together with imagery-based techniques. A detailed verbal retelling is not required.
EMDR
EMDR uses its own phased protocol and bilateral-stimulation procedures. The sequencing and clinical techniques differ from ART.
